— Rethinking product pages for India's D2C ecosystem
The Problem
Product pages hadn't changed in a decade — image and text first. But consumer discovery shifted to video + voice (Instagram, YouTube Shorts). D2C brands needed their own channels (Shopify stores) to avoid e-commerce platform commissions, creating an enabler market.
The Bet
Short shoppable video on product pages would meaningfully improve conversion. Most D2C brands already had video inventory on Instagram — they needed to bring it into the purchase flow.
The Approach
Built a Shopify app with clips section + stories feature. Solved video performance through progressive loading (3s initial, lazy load, 5s burst on play, next-video preload) on CloudFront CDN (AWS startup credits). GTM through D2C offline networking events. Funded by BITS Pilani alum with aligned vision.
The Outcome
50 D2C brands onboarded, 50L raised. Ceased operations when funded incumbents locked major brands and AI disrupted SaaS funding. The founder chapter taught: enter markets you understand, validate through direct customer contact, and know when the return-on-time equation breaks.
